Me…in a Nutt-Shell

Hello! My name is James Nutt…and I am a creative. These days I mainly work in words but all throughout elementary, middle and highschool, I was taking sort form of art class. I was introduced to pencils, charcoal, clay, watercolor, acrylics, oils, crow quill pen/ink (my favorite), photography and everything in between. As I mentioned earlier, I primarily write these days, and want to promote that medium within these pages. I will have links to access my other artistic projects.
I’ve lived in Portland Oregon nearly fifty years and it will always be home to me. I love Portland for a number of reasons: I’m two hours away from the Oregon Coast/Pacific Ocean, which is hella cold, but the view and negative ions are lovely. I’m also situated about seventy-five minutes away from Mt. Hood and all its wonder. I prefer fishing and camping to skiing, but to each their own. I’ve travelled the state pretty thoroughy but still love hitting the road and seeing what other little towns have to offer. I am never disappointed.

I am an avid gamer – I’ve been playing DnD for about forty years. I love Mayfair’s Rail Games, enjoy Magic the Gathering, although playing the last few years has been stifled. More recently I’ve been introduced into a whole metric ton of board, card, picture and word games, plus everything in between that I had let pass me by over the years. I am thankful to my friends that are less curmedgeon-like that are more open to new games and have decided to share.
Living in Portland has the advantage of being an easy drive (and walking in a few cases) of any number of brew pubs serving hand crafted beer and delicious burgers.
The picture here was taken at the the Seaside Brewing Company. I don’t recall which beer I had but as you can tell, the grub is on-point and tasted as good as it looked.

I’ve been married nearly fourteen years (together more than 16 and have been supported in all of my artistic endeavors) and have two dogs; Pearl & Kona.
Pearl is our new rescue and is the little (30 lbs.) one shown here. Kona is our blondie pictured here (50lbs.) Funnily enough, Pearl rules the joint. Kona’s inner lab just makes her a bit too melo to argue with Pearl.
Taking trips can be a bit tricky with the dogs unless it’s camping which everyone loves. Thankfully my parents-in-law have been on dog duty when we can’t take our dogs.
I bowled constant for nearly 35 years but had to recently stop becasue of Covid-19 and my knees. Not sure I’ll ever roll another ball but one can hope.
My greatest achivements are 5 x 300 (perfect) games and 1 x 800 series. My actual scores were 278 – 263 – 266 = 807. My highest average in league was 218. I’m very proud of those achivements.

I also love kayaking, disc-golf, hiking and star-gazing and currency collecting. I mean to say that I collect old American money like silver certificates or real silver coins as well as foreign paper and coins. I love all the variety you see in other country’s legal tender.
I’ve been learning how to navigate life as an adult with ADHD (self-diagnosed) which hasn’t been terribly easy. The biggest thing I have accepted is that there are some things I am not so good at (memory retention / keeping my cool / confidence). But…there are many things that I am really good at – bowling for instance, or rather I was really good at until my knees started giving me issues. I straddle having an artistic/creative mind and a technical/procedural one which allows me to create whitepapers, troubleshoot hardware and learn a variety of current technology. I can focus on several things at a time. Plus art. I love ALL art. This is my journey to explore and share with you. Thanks for stopping by.
